We were delighted to join Rachel Wardley from Tallulah Rose Flower School and the team at Com-Post at the Garden Museum in London for 'Floristry Worth Learning' —an event dedicated to inspiring florists with practical, sustainable approaches, with creativity as the driving force.

Curated by Rachel Wardley, the event reflected her long-standing commitment to sustainable floristry. Rachel emphasised the commercial value of sustainable practices for florists and how small, incremental actions can lead to meaningful change. She shared invaluable insights into sustainability’s vital role in the floral industry, offering practical solutions. Rachel demonstrated how working within sustainability constraints can spark creativity and lead to innovative designs. The team from Com:post, founded by Hannah and Fiona, are revolutionising green waste management in the floral industry with their innovative composting system. By diverting green waste to composting facilities, they provide florists with an environmentally responsible alternative. Blooming Haus also shared their experiences, showcasing how this system integrates seamlessly with their sustainability efforts.

Sophie Powell of U.FL.O shared her experience of testing Phoam having tested different versions of the product during the development phase. She demonstrated how to use Phoam effectively in designs and how the foam accommodates a variety of stems. She also invited attendees to test Phoam for themselves and the group enjoyed inserting a variety of stem types to evaluate the performance.

“I have been a floristry teacher for many years, and some of the new generation of florists will never have worked with traditional floristry foam. Phoam is an exciting development in the industry, particularly for weddings, events, and large-scale installations. Having a safe and reliable medium that doesn’t impact the environment will open opportunities for creativity. Everyone enjoyed testing the product and we are all excited for the launch”

The event was a fantastic opportunity for Phoam Labs founder Dundee Butcher to share the story behind the creation of Phoam and update attendees on the exciting news that Phoam is certified compostable.

“We are thrilled to be part of this incredible event and share that Phoam now has TÜV Industrial Compostability Certification. We are inspired by the growing movement of florists focusing on sustainability in their work,” says Dundee. “Seeing so many passionate florists committed to making a positive impact gives us hope for the future. I’m especially excited to showcase Phoam, which offers florists more choice, saves valuable time, and provides the flexibility and robustness they need—from the workroom to transportation and installation—all while being non-toxic, plant-based, and compostable.”

Floristry worth learning was a momentous day—full of shared experiences, opportunities for reflection and ideas on how we can all support each other.
